Landscapes have been transformed

Abundant rain turned Namibia green! The flooding of rivers and overflowing dams in the southern parts of Namibia is said to be the most severe since the 1990’s. 2021 saw the rainfall levels almost triple the norm in the northeastern, central, and southern parts of Namibia, transforming the arid landscape into a sea of green.

SOSSUSVLEI RECEIVED WATER FROM THE TSAUCHAB RIVER

Sossusvlei is one of Namibia’s most spectacular and best known attractions. On very rare occasions, when enough rain falls in the Naukluft Mountains, the Tsauchab River reaches its termination point Sossusvlei. This large white salt and clay pan is characterized by the impressive red sand dunes that surround it.
